Whitehead Genealogy Home

If this is your first visit in a while, or if you are new to our site please take a few minutes to read the information on this page to familiarize yourself with our goals and objectives.

This site started out several years ago as an effort to extend our knowledge of the Whitehead family in Clarke County, Georgia and now has been expanded to also included the ancestors in all lines for Robert Comer Whitehead and Katheryne Lee DeVore Whitehead.

Our search on the Whitehead family has been expanded to include many more Whitehead families who were in the southeastern United States during the early 1800s.

We are in contact with a number of researchers who frequently supply new information on their branch of the family and we hope you will check back often for new information, and if possible supply information that will further our research.

As of June 4, 2007 our research now covers 40,294 individuals.

Our earlier site contained over 4,000 pages of information on various famliies and covered about 39,000 individual names. That site grew from a very small effort and information was added to our site as found over a number of years. For those reasons the organization and maintenance of the site became more difficult as the information expanded.

Today there are many more tools available for the maintenance of this site, and tools for sharing information have emerged which will help any researcher using the site or someone wanting to submit information for others to use in their research. For these reasons we have established a number of standards for our own use, but these same standards apply if you would like to submit information, and we encourage all serious researchers to submit relevant information which will help others in their quest.

A list of our standards is available through the links on the left below, and we hope you will spend enough time here to want to join our efforts.

As mentioned, we have created a new set of standards for information on this web site which will help everyone either sending or receiving information to us.

We set standards for:

and will expand this list as we continue to work with others to gather information.

With regards to this web site we also set a number of standards concerning design and presentations. Those items include:

We will set other standards along the way when we see that they will aid our efforts to present and share information.

There are a number of large commercial genealogy sites that are very helpful to all of us in our research. We built this site to try and focus our efforts on just one small segment of what a larger site might track, and to bring focus to our family.

We are always looking for people to join our project who have an interest in the related families detailed here. Perhaps you have some small piece of information which can help others, or perhaps you have information on a complete branch of the family that will help link up families about whom we know almost nothing. Either way you can help us and we hope you will join our effort.

Please contact us through this web site if you have information you would like to contribute and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.

One of the great things about working with genealogists over the years is that we have yet to encounter anyone who has intentionally misrepresented any material. Instead, there is a great deal of mutual respect and appreciation for the effort required to dig through mountains of records to glean little facts that collectively add up to a family story.

That said, there is still a lot of room in any genealogical pursuit for people to misinterpret or mistakenly report information that ultimately makes its way into the semi-official records represented over the internet.

We make an effort to determine the sincerity of individuals submitting information to us, but it is impossible to know the original sources of all information. If you find information that you believe to be innacurate please contact us through the link on the web site and we will be happy to make appropriate additions and corrections.

We also strongly encourage you to read further information on our work by clicking here.
