While we would all like for it to be somewhat different, history is often defined by the timeframe of wars. In fact, if we take a good look at the history of the world it is better defined as a long series of conflicts, occasionally interrupted by brief periods of peace, or relative peace.
For Americans, the Revolutionary War is the defining moment that separated us as a nation from England. But it was the Civil War that transformed us from a Federation of States into The United States. Outside of these two wars there are obviously many more that were important in shaping us into the nation we are today. None are more important than World Wars I and II in terms of sacrifice and in preserving the world as we know it. But all conflicts are important and should be commemorated.
While the list on the right is not a complete list of individual conflicts, they do represent the major recognized conflicts of our Country. Many of the records of veterans who served in these wars are just becoming available and we are doing our best to capture as much of that information as possible.
Each of the links on the right will take you to an area of the web site where we are categorizing information as we can find it. In general, the information is organized by surname within each war. We have additional notes about the significance of each war to our family on the individual pages. |
