Since mid May the primary work on the site continues to be the World War I Draft Registration cards. We now have letters A through G completed and a total of 556 cards available to view, with many more coming. As mentioned last month, the World War I records are proving to be a great source of information for the reasons listed on the cover page to that section. Our other information has been updated to reflect the other data gathered from these cards, such as birth dates, birth places, spouses, etc.
We also paid a visit to the Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs, Georgia to attend the funeral of one of my wife's relatives. While we were there we took the opportunity to photograph a few tombstones and those have been added to the site.
All of the Bible records from the old web site have now been moved to the new one. We used PDF's to record the information which gives us the ability to combine both text and images into one document. Our goal is to create documents like the one for John Gordon Sylvanus Sutherland where we have a transcript and copies of the actual pages from the family Bible. If you have any Bible records you can add to help with this effort please let us know. This is a great way to preserve those old records before the ravages of age get to the paper.
All the wills from the old web site have now been moved over and redone to fit the PDF format. Probably the best example of an ideal entry is the will of Samuel Lowe where we have both a written copy and a transcript of his will.
I am still working on the obituaries and this could take some time. I have moved all the ones from the old web site over, but many of you sent me obituaries by email, and i need to go back through those to find the new ones. Right now alternating this work with the search for World War I Draft Registration data keeps me from going crazy. |
